ISC2 Seattle

 This past January the new ISC2 Seattle chapter was officially sanctioned by ISC2. The work was a great accomplishment to myself, and the great team that reflect the chapters board of directors. 

So today I wanted to share the vision, and purpose of the chapter, this text appears verbatim in our  formation application. 


*Purpose – What is your reason for starting an (ISC)2 chapter in the proposed area? 

The local geography has a considered short fall of young professionals entering the employment market. As a former ISSA board president and an advisory for CSA both lack the ability to 'certify' a candidate as a qualified expert in Cyber Security. 
Finding and helping these new candidates as ISC2 members is essential to continue building the expertise desperately needed in the Seattle technology corridor. 
As a hiring manager I respect applicants that produce their CISSP or like certification as proof of basic security knowledge. We consider it a gold standard. However, the base of new members are thin, and hard to find. Many applications I speak to indicate entrance to ISC2 is difficult as the curricula is complex. A local chapter will foster education, and exposure of the organization. As seen in our Chapter vision. 

*Vision/Mission – What do you want the chapter to achieve/accomplish? 

As a long time ISC2 member, and CISSP I see the organization and its certification is well recognized by employers. When looking for new hires in an organization, ISC2 certification is a good starting point in cyber security. And CISSP’s certificate is offered in many schools as a supplement to graduates, which lends it credence and viability as an industry employer. Fostering the growth and establishing quality channels with schools will be a core effort our chapter will work to achieve, using the ISC 2 vision statement.

Secure workstation - Root of trust to manage the cloud

Two months ago I introduced the Azure secure workstation, and I’ve had the privilege to present the ideal to some great audiences. From the discussions, a common question I’ve been asked is a pattern that would provide the Secured PAW model lock down scenario to exclusively manage an Azure Portal (EG how to I assure only secured workstation, and users assigned to the program can manage my cloud services)? Why is privileged access important?

Last year about this time I had published updates to the Azure Secure Workstation that was originally released two years ago. And This month the solution has been considerably rewritten and revised to provide a better more complete management for privileged access!  Collaborating with two great security experts James Noyce, and Mark Simos The content got a massive overhaul, and a broad perspective on what it takes to build and manage a comprehensive privileged access solution, including account management, device management, intermediaries such as VPN's and interfaces such as Web and Cloud services.
